Maybeline's Great Lash Mascara
I have a confession.
I hate Maybeline’s Great Lash mascara.
I know, I know. It’s supposed to be the holy grail of mascaras. Every makeup artist I’ve ever been to has had the familiar pink and green tube in their makeup bag. My mother has used it for as long as I can remember and she loves it.
Hell, I use it.
And I hate it.
Specifically, I use the waterproof version because I have this incredibly sexy habit of sweating. Constantly. From my face. I’m also the world’s biggest cry baby. Waterproof mascara is a must for me.
And Maybeline’s Great Lash waterproof mascara does stand up fine against water…
And it does go on just fine.
It does give me dark, relatively long lashes.
But it also clumps really easy and smudges horribly throughout the day. By noon I look like I’ve just returned from an all night kegger.
And the waterproof part? Makes it really difficult to wash off. Even with makeup remover it’s difficult to get my eyelashes completely gunk free. It takes a good two days of no makeup before I’m starting with fresh eyes.
And yet, I still use it – because it’s as good or better than anything else I’ve found and it’s cheap. Not that I wouldn’t be willing to pay a little more for great mascara – but I’m not paying a penny more for equal or lesser results.
What I want is a mascara that makes my lashes longer, darker, and slightly thicker without clumping. If it helps them curl – bonus. But most importantly, I want it to stay exactly where I put it for an entire day. I don’t want grey smudges under my eyes!
Is that too much to ask?
Has anyone discovered a mascara that is better than Maybeline’s Great Lash?

@Suburban Oblivion, AMEN to the MaxFactor 2000 Calorie Aqualash: it’s the only thing I’ll use. Not clumpy, no smudging or running, stays put in actual water (I used to be a swim instructor). Absolutely the perfect mascara, and less than $10.
