My New Favorite Bra
A few weeks ago, I took a weekend trip to Chicago. Ah, Chicago. The Magnificent Mile. A shopping Mecca that draws scads of tourists. I love Chicago, and never miss a chance to stroll down Michigan Avenue. But shopping here isn’t something that drives me wild, because there isn’t really anything there that I can’t get at home.
Except for H&M. H&M is one of my favorite stores, for one simple reason. It carries all the cute trendy clothes and it sells ‘em cheap. You don’t want to spend a ton of money on the trendy pieces that will be out of style in a season. Sadly, I live in a place that does not have any H&M stores, and I can’t even order from their website. I don’t get that, but I live with it. So when I stumble upon an H&M I am like a kid in a candy store.
My last sojourn into H&M led me to the Favorite T-Shirt Bra. I bought it in every color they make – white, black and nude/blush.
It really is a great bra to wear under a t-shirt. Its lines are smooth so you don’t end up with the bra equivalent of a visible panty line. (Someone really ought to come up with a name for that. I’ll work on it.) Also, the straps stay put. I wear one of these bras almost every day, and I have NEVER had to hitch up my bra straps. Not once.
However, the best thing about this bra? NO BACK FAT LINE!
A lot of people think that if you have a problem with back fat, your bra is too small so they go out and buy bigger bras. But really the problem is usually that your bra is too big. Your back strap should hit you high up on your back, where most people’s back fat does not live. When your bra is too big, the back strap ends up lower on your back where that extra fat lives on most of us. This is all true.
At first when I tried on this bra, I thought it was too small because the back strap was so high up. It took a bit of getting used to in order to fasten it. But it seems somehow magically designed to be high up on the back and still fit with the wire where it belongs in front. The T-shirt Bra would be the perfect bra for under any top that clings in any way, not just t-shirts.
I’m going to Las Vegas at the end of this week, and I might have to stock up on three more of these bras, just in case they ever stop making them.
How to keep your bra straps from showing

The fact that these products exist make me feel slightly less trashy.
It’s good to know I’m not the only woman in the world walking around with my bra straps showing half the time. Sometimes it’s the fault of a bad bra, sometimes it’s the fault of a good bra gone bad, and sometimes it’s just a sleeveless top cut a teeny bit too narrow for the standard width of your average bra.
Whatever the reason for flaunting your bra straps on accident, I’m thrilled to have learned about a solution that does not involve me spending my summers in a strapless bra. (Because let’s face it – strapless is not a friend to breasts that have a) nursed babies or b) been around for more than 23 years.)
