Make Your Mark On Buy-Her

A new year is a wonderful time to make changes for the better.  The ladies at Buy-Her are excited about some of the recent changes we’ve made, and  we’re working hard to come up with great new features to introduce to you this year.

We only succeed when we offer content that gives you what you want and need, and the best way to do that is to just come right out and ask you.

So tell us, what kinds of information are most helpful to you? What would you like to see more of on Buy-Her? What would you like to see less of? Is there a great product out there that we haven’t discovered yet? A Web site you can’t live without?

Sit down and tell us all about it. We’re listening—just like a good girlfriend should.

Sparkly Soul Headbands

Sparkly Soul Headbands

I have found the most amazing new headbands.  Has anyone mentioned Sparkly Soul to you yet?

Let me tell you about my former headband drama first… so you can see just WHY I appreciate Sparkly Soul so much.

Lets go way back in the time machine.  I am in elementary school… then junior high.  Active kid always running around.

Thick hair.  So thick I need 2 tough hair elastics to really wrap around my ponytail and keep it in place.  Put a headband on and it is sliding off—no matter what the brand – after just a little while.  Or sliding on back while I am running around.  In high school I went through more kinds of headbands than I can count with sports.  Believe me when I say nothing did the trick.  I had honestly begun to think that maybe some people just didn’t have a head for headbands.

The last year or so I have been using the really thin Goody ones.  I love Goody products… but even they only stay for so long.  I would use it to pull my bangs back on a day I didn’t feel like doing my hair.  (Ahem *most days*)  Or one of those rare days I was trying to work out.  Still, they always slide back eventually.  I just fix it and continue on.  Several times.

A few weeks ago I was preparing for my new workout gym routine and I saw a friend mention Sparkly Soul.  Curious, I looked them right up.  Not gonna lie, the glitter drew me in.  Huge fan of glittery things.  Sparkly Soul has “360 degrees of sparkle.”  They come in 11 sparkly colors: Black, Blue, Gold, Green, Orange, Ice Pink, Dark Purple, Light Purple, Red, Silver and Hot Pink.  I got mine in my two favorite colors.  Blue and Green.

I should mention they come in two sizes.  3/8 inch width and 5/8 inch width.  I have the blue in 3/8 and the green in 5/8.  And no matter what I do, they DO NOT MOVE!  I haven’t had to adjust them once yet and I have been wearing them for two weeks. Errands, the gym… treadmill, exercise bike, weights, Zumba, Pilates and even some aerobic classes.  They don’t slip.  (Nor do I get a headache from them as I have with other headbands that fit a little snug.)  And I have gotten tons of compliments on my sparkly headbands.

From their website: Sparkly soul was created by a marathoner and triathlete—for all the women who find their strength and soul while pushing themselves to their athletic limits.  I am IN LOVE with Sparkly Soul and will be purchasing more in the future.  The headbands can be purchased directly from their Web site.  The 3/8 retail at $15 and the 5/8 at $17.  Well worth the price.  I think you will be in love just like I am!

Disclaimer: I was not paid for this review, however Sparkly Soul was kind enough to send me two headbands for an honest review. The opinions are all my own.

Good Enough to Eat Indeed!

This Book Really Is Good Enough To Eat!

Allow me to introduce you to Stacey Ballis.  Besides blogging at The Polymath Chronicles, Stacey is a fabulous author.  She is the partner in crime to another of my beloved authors and bloggers, Jen Lancaster and I tell you no lie, I would gladly give up just about any vice to be a fly on the wall when those two get going. Stacey has a new book, Good Enough To Eat.

I have a special place in my heart for books by bloggers but my literary tastes are vast, I’ll read anything as long as it isn’t a bodice-ripping Harlequin romance, a Western, a Sci-Fi book or anything that Stephen King has touched.  And aside from my love of Chick Lit, Memoirs, Forensic Thrillers and True Crime, Not to mention, I’m a book-a-holic.  I read about 3 books a week.  I devour them at an inhuman pace and my computer pretty much just points itself to Amazon without any prompting.  (Although much to my husband’s delight, I have recently procured a library card.)

Having read three of Stacey’s previous books, Inappropriate Men, Room for Improvement and The Spinster Sisters, I was so excited to hear about her newest release and pre-ordered it on Amazon months and months before it was released.  When it showed up, it was all I could do to keep myself from feigning a pathetic cough and rushing home to curl up on the back porch with my new treasure.

Stacey’s protagonists are always strong, powerful and unapologetic women and the latest, Melanie Hoffman, is no exception.  After working hard for nearly two years to lose half her body weight, Melanie has gone to culinary school and now runs a take-out business specializing in healthy gourmet food.  Then one day, with no warning,  her previously supportive husband up and leaves her for a woman twice her size.

I could not put this book down for the two days it took me to finish it.  Stacey Ballis has surrounded Melanie (who I adored secondly only to Sidney, the witty, sexy plus-sized star of “Inappropriate Men”) with intriguing friends and family and weaves a really wonderful story of a woman who thought she’s come to the end of a journey, when in fact, she’s only at the beginning.   I’d call it a beach read if it weren’t so freaking cold outside.  And yet… it has more to it than a normal beach book… more heart.

Stacey’s books are refreshing because they are about REAL women.  These aren’t supermodels skipping around Manhattan in 4-inch heels with mysterious unlimited funds (although I do profess a guilty pleasure for those books as well).  Her subjects are smart, witty, accomplished women who aren’t afraid of their faults and love themselves just the way they are.  Just between you and me?  That’s the kind of role model I would want for myself and my daughter… if I had one.

Find Good Enough to Eat, along with all Stacey Ballis’s books, on Amazon.

Or, you can stop cheaping out and buy the woman some damn jewelry.

Seriously.

Yesterday I kicked off the Mother’s Day Gift Guide series with a look at top holiday gift ideas for women to eat.

Today we’re going sappy and sentimental.  And what is more sappy and sentimental than a Mother’s Day Gift that you can put your name on?  It’s like homemade but better because the materials won’t attract bugs.

Yeah, $12.  My mom is one of those people who still reads real live actual books made of paper.  This is something thoughtful and pretty and useful that most readers don’t think to actually buy for themselves.

Friday Flops: Laptop Bag doesn’t fit laptop

Laptop Bag - click to embiggen

I hate it when the things I buy for myself don’t work out as planned.

I was so excited to find this Relic Laptop Bag at Kohl’s.  It was on clearance sale for $11.00 and it seemed like the perfect fashionably geeky tech gift for myself.

I have to take my laptop back and forth to work.  It’s a pain in the ass.  When I saw this laptop bag I figured at the very least I could save myself some hassle by being able to use it as a computer bag and a purse, as opposed to lugging a laptop bag and a purse back and forth to work.

And it’s cute.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t actually hold a normal sized laptop computer.

Sexy Summer Sandals – Help me choose!

April 8, 2009 by

I have a confession to make.

My summer shoe collection is woefully understocked.  In fact, I own more flip flops than I do strappy sandals.

*hangs head in shame*

I don’t know how it happened.  I believe in the power of high heels.  During the winter time I live in stilettos and pumps and well heeled boots.  I am the world’s loudest advocate for real shoes and shoes that make your legs look great.  And the summer is when you can actually see the benefits of a great shoe with bare legs the most!

And yet, I have one pair of meh black sandals with a meh heel, a pair of canary yellow slides and a pair of turquoise slides.  And these:

Clearly, it’s time to go shoe shopping for some great sexy sandals for summer.

Comfortable Sandals That Aren’t Flip Flops: Clarks

find sandals that are cute AND comfortableLast Friday morning I pulled on running pants and a t-shirt and slipped on an old pair of Old Navy flip flops to run my daughter to day care.

“Mommy, why are you wearing flip flops?” my daughter asked.

“What do you mean?” I asked, wondering if she was going to suggest that slippers would be more fitting for the rest of my ensemble.

“Well, couldn’t you at least put on some real shoes?”

She’s four.  And I couldn’t have been more proud.  Even my four year old understands that leaving the house in flip flops is the epitome of laziness.
