Reebok EasyTone

As a woman of a certain age (mid-thirties if you must know) I am constantly on the hunt for tips and tools to make working out more effective and easier.  About a year ago, I started seeing ads for the Reebok EasyTone, a shoe that was designed to work your glutes and hamstrings harder with every step, making toning your legs and tush just a little easier.

I am a diehard Nike fan and rarely look at any other brand of athletic shoe, but honestly I was intrigued by the wacky looking picture on the Reebok website. I hopped on Zappos and ordered my first pair of Reebok EasyTones. A few days later, the strangest looking pair of athletic shoes I had ever seen arrived at my door. I took them out of the box and saw shoes with bubbles on the bottom.

I slipped them on and walked outside to take them for a test drive.  They are very comfortable, but take a few steps to get used to.  With every step, your feet rock slightly on the pads underneath your heels and the balls of your feet.  Reebok claims the shoes work your glutes 28% harder and your hamstrings and calves 11% harder than regular walking shoes, so I expected to feel muscle fatigue more quickly than usual, but I didn’t! They were comfortable for the duration of my walk, but when I got home and stretched I could absolutely feel a difference, especially along my hamstrings.

The shoes are not designed for anything but walking, trying to run in them was extremely uncomfortable, but the next time I am in the market for a good quality walking shoe that will give me a little extra oomph, I will head to the Reebok display and pick up another pair of EasyTones before I try anything else!

Dumbbells for Women

I want to get dumbbells for my home so that I can have Michelle Obama arms.

What?  That is a completely acceptable reason to start thinking about fitness and exercising and stuff.  The first lady has fantastic arms.

My husband has some of those adjustable dumbbells with the plates you have to put on and take off to adjust the weight, and they intimidate the hell out of me.  I am fully aware of how pathetic that sounds, but it’s true.

What I’m looking for is a dumbbell set with multiple weights (so I can increase the weight as I get stronger) or adjustable dumbbells that are easy to use.  I don’t want a huge rack that will take up a lot of space in my house because I just don’t have the room for a full gym in my home.

Friday Flops: MBT Shoes and Sandals

mbt-sneakersThe world has lost its damn mind.

That’s the only plausible explanation I can come up with for how in the hell MBT shoes not only exist, but are purchased and worn by adults.

What are MBT shoes?

Apparently, they are very technical shoes that work out your legs and core muscles and improve your posture when you wear them.

But Britt, that sounds awesome!  I can have great legs without ever having to exercise just by putting on a pair of shoes?  What’s not to love?

People, please.  Will you look at these things?
