Ballet Flats – A Fashion Staple

ballet-flats-on-flickrI adore ballet flats.

At present, I have seven pairs of ballet flats in various colors and styles and I can think of at least three more pairs I don’t own that I am lusting after.  (I’m just trying to figure out where I’ll make room for them in my closet.)

I believe ballet flats are a footwear staple that every woman should have at least one pair of.  Nina Garcia included ballet flats in her list of 100 things every woman should have in her closet.  (Although, she also included a poncho in that list – but still.  She was right about the ballet flats.)

There are two things I adore about ballet flats.  One is that they are extremely comfortable.  A cute shoe that can handle 6 hours of shopping is a treasure.  The other thing I love about ballet flats is that they are one of the few closed toe shoes that don’t require socks – making them perfect for summer days when you’re in bad need of a pedicure.  Yes, it happens.  But no one has to know if you’ve got the perfect pair of ballet flats.

Or seven.

Are you looking for the perfect holiday gift idea for women?

Buy her jewelry.

The end.

I mean sure, you can go sentimental with personalized gifts.  Sure, you can show that you understand her concern for the environment with eco-friendly gifts.  And sure, you can get to her heart by way of her stomach with edible foodie gifts.

Or, you can stop cheaping out and buy the woman some damn jewelry.

Seriously.

Twisted silver and gold strand cuff bracelet
$362

I love this.  I love that it’s classic and timeless and versatile and whispers “strong, confident woman”.

Cocktail Rings – Because They’re Fabulous

Bought this in Savannah, GA

One of my favorite ways to make a fashion statement is with a great cocktail ring.

Nina Garcia lists a cocktail ring as one of the essential elements of style in her book The One Hundred.

And Nina Garcia knows her shit.

A cocktail ring is basically an oversized ring.  It’s perfectly acceptable, and actually prefered, to go with a fake.

What I love about a cocktail ring is that it takes absolutely no effort and it makes a big statement.  It says you tried, without having to actually try.

And did I mention they’re cheap?

(See examples for as little as $5 after the jump!)
