Are you taking Flinstone Vitamins?

Posted on October 19, 2009 by in Health

flinstone vitaminsThe first time I took a Flinstones vitamin, I was 19 years old.

And pregnant.

I had spent several weeks throwing up and had stopped taking the horse pill sized pre-natal vitamins because I got tired of flushing them down the toilet 30 seconds after I ingested them.  (You come here for the visuals, I know.)  My doctor recommended I take the children’s chewable vitamins and my stomach thanked her profusely for the next 8 months.

Since giving birth and curing myself of constant nausea, I have tried several times over the last 10 years to take grown up multivitamins.

I hate grown up vitamins.

I’ve tried multiple brands, and they all make me instantly queasy.  I’ve taken them on a full stomach, I’ve taken them with milk.  I’ve taken them in the morning, at lunch, and right before bed.  I’ve had them on a plain, I’ve had them on a train.  I do not like grown up vitamins; I do not like them one bit.

So, I went back to Flinstones vitamins.

Recently, a girlfriend of mine told me about a new multivitamin she was taking.  Because this is the kind of interesting discussion that happens in my life now. Apparently, she, too, had been resorting to stealing her kids’ vitamins in order to fight off the upset stomach.  And then she discovered One-A-Day was making vitamins specifically for pussies like us!

Gummie Vitamins for Adults

Gummie Vitamins for Adults

One-A-Day VitaCraves Gummies is a complete adult multivitamin supplement in gumny bear form.

For some odd reason, you actually take two gummies a day.  Maybe they can’t pack all the nutrients needed for an adult into one little gummy.  I don’t know.  What I do know is that these things taste like fruit snacks and I find myself thinking “did I already take my vitamins today?  Hmm… if I can’t remember for sure, I might as well take them just in case!”

Fortunately, I think it would take more than two doses a day to OD.  (Although, ODing on multivitamin gummy bears would be just my luck.)

I have no idea what the difference is between an adult formula and a vitamin formulated for children.  I assume there is a difference because the vitamin companies tell me that there is.  Also, the numbers on the back of the bottles in my house are different, so that’s almost like scientific proof.  I imagine I would have been just fine if I would have continued on with my Flinstone addiction, but I do like that the fine print on VitaCraves says that it’s formulated for energy and immune support.

My point is this:

If you are a big baby like me and don’t take a daily vitamin because they all make you sick, try these deliciously awesome gummy vitamins for grown ups.

Or eat more vegetables.

gonna buy these for my daughter. she’s preggers with baby number two (a grandson for me this time around!) and i bet she would love these…as opposed to hurling her prenatals out the second she swallows them.

    thanks, B.!

The difference is in the dosage if the individual vitamins. But I hear you, I’m intolerant to synthetic B vitamins so many commercial multis make me nauseous, too.

One that works for me is the Emergen-C multi. You know how Emergen-C comes in many flavors and you just add a packet to water to have a fruity vitamin C drink? Same thing, but you get a multi instead. Yum.

I have to admit, I was so stoked when I saw these. Then I tried them. I did not really care for them. I can’t wait until I finish this bottle and can buy something else. I think I’ll try the Flintstone kind. :)

I will definitely have to try these instead of the Flintstones chewables I take now.

Ooh. The only thing I really worry about with these types of vitamins is the sugar content. However, they are FAR more appealing than regular vitamins. (Which? By the way? The better quality adult vitamins are, the worse they smell and taste.)

I’d be interested to try these though.

Once I get through the gigantic bottle my husband bought from the vitamin store. :gag:

And I thought I was the only one that could not stomach grown up vitamins! Yeah for “pussies like us”!!!! I guess after we finish the humongous bottle of generic Flinstones vitamins we’ll give those a shot. They should be ok for my 15 year old daughter too, right?

While I can take any old vitamin, Mister can’t swallow the “adult-sized” pills, so I actually Viativ Multivitamins. They are soft chocolate chews (which I would prefer to gummies anyway). Don’t know if they would upset your stomach, but if you can find them you might try them.

  8. When I remember to take a vitamin, it’s a Flinstones vitamin. Grown up ones make me sick. I started taking the Flinstones while pregnant too.

I’ll have to try the gummy ones, I don’t like the way the Flinstones ones get stuck in my teeth.

I first started taking a multi in college. I didn’t realize that an uncoated one would make me feel nauseated, so I spent a week wondering if I were pregnant. LOL

Target also has a version in their Up & Up brand. It’s what I’ve been taking, since the prenatals made me barfy, too.

  11. So it’s okay to take Flinstones? Because I’ve been craving them! I hate swallowing those huge grownup multivitamins. They taste weird and the kid in me wants those yummy vitamins back!

For pregnant people that do not like regular “horsepill” prenatal vitamins: now there is a real solution! Vitafusion PreNatal DHA and Folic Acid gummy vitamins. It is a GUMMY VITAMIN TO MEET YOUR PRENATAL NUTRITION NEEDS! I was so excited to discover this after nauseatingly taking regular prenatals through my last 2 pregnancies…hopefully this time these will help, now I need to go buy it and try them out.
