Brookstone i-need Neck & Shoulder Massager

Posted on December 8, 2010 by in Featured, Health

A few weeks ago, I woke up at about 3:30 am to what felt like a broken spine. From my neck to mid-back, there was this sharp, intense pain that made it difficult to move, sleep, and refrain from whining. And, in case you’re curious, the answer is no. No, I did not sustain an injury from sports or some other feat of strength. I simply slept wrong. Good god, I SLEPT WRONG.  Enter the Brookstone i-need Neck & Shoulder Massager. After a few days of non-stop heating pad application and feeling no results, I mentioned my pathetic state to a friend who offered to lend me her massager. (Her NECK massager. Ahem.) At first, I declined. My husband has this mammoth one that resembles a modern clubbing device, and maneuvering it over my back was simply too painful. But when she showed me her i-need Neck & Shoulder Massager, my interest was piqued.  Its design suggested it’d be much less cumbersome.  And then there was my back, of course, encouraging me. Or, rather, still screaming for mercy. So I grumpily snatched the darn thing out of her hands and hobbled home.

Brookstone's i-need Neck & Shoulder Massager

The fact that this thing draped over the problem area was perfect. In contrast with some of the club-shaped (and heavy) masagers on the market, this one allowed me to sit in a position that wouldn’t exacerbate the problem. Using the handles, a simple adjustment with my wrist would shift the vibrations around a pretty large area of my upper back and neck. Even turning the thing on and off required little movement.

Now, did it cure my ridiculous (and embarrassing) back injury? Certainly not. But it felt damn good, you guys. Now, not everyone agrees with me, it seems. If you look at some of the reviews on Brookstone’s site, you’ll see some people are unhappy with the bulk of the thing. And while I was initially concerned about this as well, once the massager is in position, I felt that the weight actually helped create a more intense effect.  So, there’s that.

And, to be fair, if I were being picky (as 32 year-old women with terrible sleeping posture are wont to do), I’d bemoan the lack of heat on this model.  The good news, however, is that a heated one does exist! (If you’re willing to shell out an additional $20. Which, if you’d asked me a few weeks ago, I’d have agreed to HAPPILY.)

So, you can just go ahead and add this sucker to my Christmas List, too, okay? Well, that, and maybe also a disgruntled grandmotherly figure who can slap me upside the head on occasion for slouching in front of this here computer all day.)

You can find the i-need Massager at Brookstone here. It’s currently on sale for $79.95 (a $20 price reduction).

And the heated version can be found here for $99.95, which is $30 off the original price.

A friend has one of these and let me use it when I had a shoulder issue last weekend. Honestly? Not impressed. Heat would have been lovely, but even with that I have never been a fan of hard balls pounding my muscles. There is simply, for me, no adequate substitute for human hands.

I tried the ineed neck and shoulder messager back on black Friday of 2010 at Brookstone. I didn’t have any type of neck injury or pain at the time. But when I tried the messager it automatically switched to high and started pounding like somebody with a hammer. It was very painful, I immediatly took it off and left the store. The pain got worse the next 3 days. I was trying home remadied suck as cold and hot comprecents and over the counter pain killer. When I finally went to the doctor he said that I have a neck spasm and I was required to do phsical therapy. This has to be the worst experience in my life and I will never try or by and Brookstone messagers!

I don’t there’s a single auto massager that solve muscle pains. I have tried many massager and they just didn’t work. I think it’s just a waste of money. The best cure for your muscle aches is REST…
