Gifts for the Runner In Your Life

The holidays are almost here and everyone wants to find the perfect holiday gift for the special people in their lives.  If you’re like me you want your gift to be personal, something that shows you were thinking about them and their lifestyle.  If you have a runner on your list, here are a few ideas for things any runner will love, and they will actually get a lot of use out of them.

Balega Hidden Comfort Socks – Hands down, these are my all-time favorite socks in the history of socks.  Balega Hidden Comfort socks don’t have seams that will cause friction and chafing. The bottom half of the sock is thick and cushy to give you a little extra comfort, while the top half is a moisture-wicking mesh that helps keep your feet cool. They seem to last forever, as far as socks go.  I have had some pairs for 3 years and the only holes that have shown up were made when the dog stole one and ran outside with it.  I have found them at my local running store for as low as $7.49 a pair, but they are listed online at between $8.99 and $9.99 per pair.  These awesome stocking stuffers are available at Amazon and your local running store.

Timex Women’s T5H471 30-Lap Ironman Triathlon Fast Wrap Watch – A comfortable watch with a stopwatch that records splits is a must for every runner.  This watch has an easy to find start/split button that you can reach on the go.  The Indiglo light is great for those early morning or late evening runs.  The band is cloth and Velcro so it’s easy to fit on your wrist, and you can Febreeze it when it gets sweaty (Oh yes, I did just say that. Sweat smells.)  At just over $30 on Amazon, it’s a great deal.

Road ID – For the most part, running is a solitary activity.  You aren’t often with someone who knows your name and address, and rarely do runners carry ID.  So what happens if you have an accident?  How will the authorities know who you are and whom to contact on your behalf?  Road ID is a smart thing for any runner (or cyclist) to have.  It comes in wrist, ankle, dog tag and shoe versions.  It lists your name and phone number, and you can list an emergency contact and phone number right on the ID.  Give the gift of safety.  www.roadid.com

The Stick – The Stick is my new best friend.  Since I’m the world’s least flexible human, I am always getting sore spots in my legs from running.  The Stick helps me to massage out the knots, and works on stretching that crucial IT band that gives runners so much grief.  For the science behind the stick, visit their site at http://thestick.com/index.cfm.  It’s especially great if you can take turns using it on a partner!  Available on Amazon and at Scheels, as well as your local running store.

That special runner in your life will love these gifts, and you will love giving a gift that you know will be useful and appreciated.

    Now I want that Stick…

  2. Thanks for all these awesome ideas! I am not a runner, but like to walk 5K’s, and have family members who are runners, so these were awesome suggestions for anyone who does training for races! I think Santa will be gifting me a few pairs of the socks and maybe the watch too! haha
