Bottle Tops – As Seen on TV!

Bottle Tops

Let me tell you two weird things about me. I mean, this is my second whole post here. I feel we are at that critical stage in our relationship where I can open up to you about my body’s peculiarities.

Weird Fact #1: I can’t swallow pills. I mean, I CAN but not anything very big, and in order to do it without gagging, I have to take the pill with something carbonated.

Weird Fact #2:  I can’t burp. I mean, I HAVE burped in my life, probably mostly during my infant days, but I can’t really do it now. So drinking a lot of anything carbonated is typically a bad idea for me. I just bloat up like Violet Beauregard and then end up with hiccups. (Oh, y’all don’t even want to hear about my life-long struggles with hiccups and my various methods of getting rid of them.)

Now I find myself at an age where I have to take more than one pill per day, some of them almost the size of VW Beetles. Which means I need soda every day. But what to do about the waste? I mean, to open a can of soda and take a few swallows just to slug down some pills is a huge waste. But you can’t really save it. OR CAN YOU?

I stumbled upon Bottle Tops, and because I cannot help but try things “As Seen on TV,” I had to buy them. Basically, it’s a cap you put on your open can of soda that looks like a bottle top (duh!) but it also has a flip-cap that keeps the soda fresh! It’s like magic! OK, maybe that’s just science. But it’s magic for me. I can open my soda, take a few drinks as needed, and then pop the Bottle Top on the can, and stick it in the fridge. I have left them in the fridge for as long as two days, and gone back to a fully carbonated drink. They are also really good for people who just don’t like to drink from cans. The fact is that soda in cans is just more cost effective than individual bottles, especially for parties or if you buy in bulk. But with Bottle Tops, you can just turn your can into a bottle and take it with you in the car.

Now here are the things I don’t like about them. They are kind of pricey- $10 if you buy them directly from the company. However, they are cheaper at Amazon than anywhere else I’ve seen them and you get a bunch of them. Twelve come in a pack, which is more than I need, but it’s perfect for larger families or if you are buying for camping or an outdoor party. The other thing that is less than ideal for me, is that you can’t put them in the dishwasher. Well, I’m not sure if they are meant to go in the dishwasher. All I can say is that I put a couple in the dishwasher, and the base of the Bottle Tops warped a little bit, and now don’t make a good seal on the can. But since I have ten extras, it didn’t hurt too badly to have to toss those two away.

So there you have it. I love it when a product you buy on a lark actually turns out to be something you wouldn’t want to live without, and one you’d recommend to friends. I can honestly say that Bottle Tops has solved a real problem I had. Admittedly, it was a weird problem, but let’s not judge, ok?

Spread the love - share this!

We only drink soda on Sundays at dinner, and sometimes I want just a little bit more, but hate opening a new can because it will go to waste. This may be an excellent solution!

thanks for this post! i am a habitual soda waster myself. good to know these things work :)

  4. Thanks for trying these out! I had seen the commercial and was wondering if they worked. My hubby thinks every commercial selling something on tv is a scam. :-) These would be perfect for me. I drink between 1-3 sodas a day and often start one and don’t finish and just place it in the fridge to go back for later.

BTW I can’t swallow pills either. Even small pills I have to put WAY on the back of my tongue, almost down my throat to swallow. AND I STILL GAG. (It doesn’t matter what type of liquid I take it with.) Meanwhile my hubby is laughing at me. :0 I also can’t chug a beer (or any liquid) really fast. My throat just doesn’t open wide enough.
    THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!!

I don’t drink soda anymore unless I’m sick, but I do drink energy drinks out of a can (don’t ask me how I’ve managed to rationalize that it’s different than soda – my brain is weird like that). Sometimes I can’t finish a whole one and then it goes to waste. I could use these and stick the other half of the can back in the fridge. Thanks!
