7 Tech Blogs That Make You Smarter

Posted on November 23, 2010 by in Featured, Tech

Why 7? One for each day of the week! I know you’re busy. I know you don’t necessarily want to immerse yourself into the world of computers and gadgets and Technology all the time, so I’ll offer you some of my favorites and hope one or seven of them stick for you.

TechCrunch
Find out what’s hot and what’s not in computers, gadgets, services, games, tech startups and tech news. They even keep you up to date on the greener side of technology, telling you which businesses are helping to save the world with their technology innovations.

Lifehacker
I’m not sure I can say it any better than Lifehacker says it, so I’ll quote them: “Computers make us more productive. Yeah, right. Lifehacker recommends the software downloads and web sites that actually save time. Don’t live to geek; geek to live.” WORD!

[Geeks Are Sexy]
They sure are… [GAS] offers breaking news, how-to’s, and product reviews. They also seem to find the most ridiculously awesome geek products on the Internet and share them with the world. (This is my personal favoritestestest tech site. <<<<<3 )

Gizmodo
This site has it all: Technology, space, tech guides, robots, and LEGOs, oh my! Seriously, anything you can think of to do with technology, Gizmodo is your Gizmo-to Guy.

InSecurity Complex
Are you slightly paranoid about how secure your computer files are? If you’re not already you will be once you start reading this CNET blog written by Elinor Mills who explains the technobabble concepts of IT security in an easy to understand form and shows you the seedy news story behind the security vulnerability.

Engadget
A web magazine on steroids. If you want to know anything about a gadget go here and you’ll find it. If you don’t find it, wait 5 minutes then refresh the page — it’ll be there!

Mashable
Consider Mashable your existentialist friend who shows up to every party to discuss why the universe exists instead of how it came into existence. It focuses on social and digital media and web trends. And, true story, its founder Pete Cashmore was in the 2009 Hot Blogger Calendar!

For those of you who stuck around long enough to count, I know I said 7 blogs but here’s a BONUS tech site that deserves mention:

Slashdot
“News for nerds.” The granddaddy of the tech sites to stalk, Slashdot has been around for over a decade, allowing user submissions and free form discussions on every nerdy topic you can think of. If you’re into debating how to make transporters and time travel exist then 2 hours later want to have a chat about the best way to take advantage of the newest operating system security flaws then come hang out on this community site that’s very heavy on the geekspeak. Bring your sliderule and your Mountain Dew.

Did I mention your favorite tech blog?

If you were to pick just one of these sites for the beginning geek, which one would it be?

@Megan G., Geeks Are Sexy is the one I would recommend because they add a lot of Star Wars and geek humor to their site and generally don’t go too outer limits on the geekspeak. And because it’s my favorite. :D
