7 Tech Podcasts to Stalk
All tech podcasts are not created equal or equally, so I’m showing you a bunch of differently styled podcasts to let you figure out what kind sounds most appealing. Like to sneak a peek at a radio show in progress? We’ve got that! Just want the facts? Yup, got that! Want to watch geeks sit on a couch, drink beer, scratch themselves, and give you the most popular tech headlines? Got that too. All podcasts listed come in video form so if you’re a visual person like me you can watch the show instead of just listen to it. And, yes, I used my Apple TV to complement my writing of this post. Love my Apple TV! But, I digress. On to the podcasts!
Poppy’s Stalkworthy Tech Podcasts
theapplebyte by CNET
This once a week mash-up of the hottest Apple news is always less than 10 minutes. Let editor Brian Tong and the CNET gang bring you up to speed on all the latest Mac news. The format is newscast style and the hosts stay on topic so be sure to watch and listen closely. Available in video subscription from iTunes or from CNetTV.com.
commandN
Host Amber MacArthur brings you the the best of the web and tech headlines of the week in less than 10 minutes (unless there’s a special guest, then it’s less than 15) from various outside locations. Who needs to sit at a stuffy news desk to give you tech news?!
Soundbytes, video clips, and tech blog and social media site tie-ins keep the show exciting and engaging. The show is scripted, so Amber stays on track, no free styling! Co-host Jeff MacArthur also adds a quick tech tip you’ll actually care about to the show. Subscribe to the video on iTunes or commandN.tv.
diggNATION
This Revision3 podcast is a once weekly 40-minute show hosted by Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht. This is definitely a Wayne’s World format where the guys sit on a couch, drink beer, scratch themselves, and swear (no Schwing! though). They use their laptops to present the top stories from digg.com then freestyle the topic. David Prager hangs out off camera with a headset and a mic to interject his 2 cents. There’s tech news in here somewhere, but if you want to feel like you’re just shooting the (breeze) with some geeks on a couch, this is the podcast for you! Watch the podcast on iTunes or revision3.com/diggnation.
geekbeat.tv
Every time the name Cali Lewis is uttered in a room at least one guy starts drooling like a school kid with a crush on his teacher. I personally don’t find Ms. Lewis that entertaining or exciting to look at, but I’m thinking I might be biased, so I’ll share her with you and you can choose for yourself. This tech news and product review podcast airs on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week and is a news-style short clips show averaging less than 10 minutes. Cali keeps a smile on her face and her hands and shoulders in motion as she reads from a script so she stays on topic. The video podcast is available at iTunes or geekbeat.tv/subscribe.
Tekzilla
This twice a week full show podcast hosted by Patrick Norton and Veronica Belmont discusses everything you can think of to wonder about how to do something with your computer or gadget, plus all the stuff that would have never occurred to you to think of but you’re glad you know it now! They also have a daily tips podcast that is newly separated from the full show, at the audience’s request. Runtime is approximately 40 minutes for full shows but the time flies right by. Subscribe to the video podcast on iTunes or revision3.com/tekzilla.
This Week in Tech – TWiT
Leo Laporte and “friends” have a 2 hour weekly discussion about all that’s worth talking about in the tech world. Because of the length of the show the cast can discuss each topic in depth. They sit down in chairs around a table with mics at a radio show set and pull special guests in via video chat. They definitely go off on tangents, so if ou want a show you can half listen to while you go through a week’s worth of unread blogs or dust your Star Wars collection, Leo’s show is for you. TWiT‘s podcast is available on iTunes as well as twit.tv/twit.
Windows Weekly
Paul Thurrott and Leo Laporte talk about all the news that’s fit to print in the Windows world for the week. The show is formatted just like TWiT because it’s part of the TWiT network. However, the show is only an hour and 20 minutes (average) in length because it’s just Leo and Paul are bantering back and forth about each tech topic. Available on iTunes or from twit.tv/ww.
All podcasts mentioned are free. No money down, you just listen and enjoy! For more tech podcasts ranging from the very general world of tech to how to get your photo software to do what you want it to, visit iTunes Technology Podcasts on apple.com.
