Comfortable Sandals That Aren’t Flip Flops: Clarks
Posted on March 30, 2009 by Miss Britt in Shoes
Last Friday morning I pulled on running pants and a t-shirt and slipped on an old pair of Old Navy flip flops to run my daughter to day care.
“Mommy, why are you wearing flip flops?” my daughter asked.
“What do you mean?” I asked, wondering if she was going to suggest that slippers would be more fitting for the rest of my ensemble.
“Well, couldn’t you at least put on some real shoes?”
She’s four. And I couldn’t have been more proud. Even my four year old understands that leaving the house in flip flops is the epitome of laziness.
Now, I just admitted to owning flip flops myself. In fact, I’ve got the rainbow coalition of five dollar flip flops going on in my closet. But I also have a drawer full of nighties that I don’t wear in public.
With spring (and soon summer!) quickly approaching, it’s time to talk footwear for women. Specifically, sandals that don’t make you look like a child.
Ladies, I understand if you don’t intend to spend months in strappy sandal heels. But for the love of God, you don’t have to resign yourself to flip flops. We’re all grown ups here, and upgrading your warm weather shoes makes a huge difference in giving you a more pulled together look in even the most casual situations.
Looking good makes you feel good. Even if you’re “just” walking around a theme park or a mall.
Cute AND Comfortable Sandals
Let me introduce you to Clarks. Clarks make high quality, super comfortable sandals. And while some of their styles scream “put some black socks on me and call me granny!”, they do have some super cute options as well.
Do you see that support? These are actually better for your feet to be walking around in all day than a pair of flimsy flip flops.
Clarks Women’s Katesbridge Slide Sandal
Is that a red slide? Why yes, yes it is. Perfect for those of you who can’t stand anything between your toes. And much, much cuter than crocs.
I love these in white. They feel nautical to me with the rope detailing and I am totally picturing my feet in these with a little gold toe ring.
Hello, Gladiator Princess. I’m in desperate need of a cute pair of brown sandals and I think these might be exactly what I’ve been looking for. I am seriously in love with the lines of this shoe because I think it’s one of the few flats I could wear that won’t make my feet and legs look all chunky and square.
Now, if you think you can handle a little bit of lift…
Am I the only one picturing me in a sundress with these strappy little wedges and a bamboo handbag right now?
Clarks Women’s Miami Beach Sandal
Be still my stiletto loving heart. These might be enough to convert me to wedges for life. My Lord, these are sexy. I want to get a pedicure with red polish right now.
Put it a fork in me, I’m done! These babies are FABULOUS and I vow to never, ever wear flip flops again, so help me Goddess of cute and comfortable shoes!

These are great. I went shoe shopping the other day looking for sandals and all I could find were those damn “toe fuckers” and I HATE them. I did end of getting a pair of pink Nike flip flops, but they are ONLY for taking the dogs out in the yard.
I liked a couple of the wedges, but straps across the ankle are not good unless you have 6 feet long legs!
You’re gonna call me a snob, LOL, but I always looked at Clarks as old-lady sandals; my mom owns some.
But, I do like the Harwick wedge.
@Melanie (Modern Mami), ME TOO!!
Seriously. I was absolutely SHOCKED to find cute Clarks.
I just bought 4-5 pairs of Old Navy flip flops…they are my summer wardrobe anytime I am not at work.
Then again, I am a lazy fashion hound.
i do love cute sandals for work. but no one can pry my flip flops from my feet. and if folks protest too hard i will whip my red crocs out and wear them until others have bleeding eyes.
I bet I own less shoes than any woman in America. I HATE shopping for them and can never find anything I like. Maybe I’m too picky, or my feet are too wide or …. no, I’m too picky! LOL
But hey, I wear “flip flops” although they are leather, so does that count?
Oh… the Tobi thong and the Miami Beach! They will be mine.
Although I will admit to wearing my FitFlops (http://thefitflop.com/) out and about on the weekends. But they are not your ordinary $5 flip flops.
The only way I’d ever give up my flip flops is if you pried them out of my cold dead fingers.
@Sheila (Charm School Reject),
My feelings, exactly.
Those totally look like my mom’s shoes.
But maybe I’m being defensive. I live in my $2 Old Navy sandals.
In other news, what do I want from my birthday? Guide me, Buy Her!
Wait what? Flip flops are the epitome of laziness? Out here, they are a fashion “yes” all of the time, any time. I’ve never heard any negative connotation regarding flip flops before!
I love my flip flops but I LOVE wedges and those last two are very very awesome.
OMG! OMG! I love these. When we went out on Sunday and my feet were swollen, I had to wear flip flops and I nearly burst in to tears. I had to search in the back of my closet for those, too because I didn’t think I OWNED flip flops!! I’m so buying a thousand pairs of these… forget that moisturizer…
I am guilty of wearing nothing but flipflops all summer long, and I am not afraid to admit it!
Those Harwick wedges are cute, but the rest of them don’t do anything for me, though. Sigh. I guess I’ll never get fashion, lmao
Now THESE are cute! and wearable – even by me, I bet!
I forgot about Clarks! I love them
